CartShield Setup Tutorial
Configure your first server-side checkout rule in less than 3 minutes. Follow this visual walkthrough.
Install CartShield from the Shopify App Store
Click Install on the Shopify App Store listing. Shopify will redirect you to your admin dashboard to approve the permissions. CartShield requires read access to your products and checkout validation scopes.
Create Your First Validation Rule
Inside the CartShield Polaris dashboard, click Create Rule. Choose from one of the battle-tested templates:
- PO Box & Locker Restriction: Block postal boxes for freight or oversized products.
- Add-on / Sample Protection: Prevent customers from ordering free or discounted samples alone.
- Wholesale Case Multiples: Enforce B2B ordering in case multiples (e.g. 6, 12, or 24).
- Minimum / Maximum Spend: Enforce spending limits for specific collections or clearance items.
Provide your custom customer-facing error message (e.g. "Heavy items cannot ship to PO Boxes. Please enter a physical street address.") and click Save Rule.
Activate Rule in Shopify Checkout Settings
Shopify checkout functions require explicit merchant activation in your Checkout settings to protect merchant control:
- In your Shopify Admin, click Settings (bottom left) → Checkout.
- Scroll down to the Checkout Rules section.
- Locate CartShield: Validation Rule and click Turn on.
- Click Save in the top right corner.
Test on Storefront or Checkout Simulator
Open an incognito browser window, add an item governed by your rule to the cart, and proceed to checkout:
- Enter a PO Box address (e.g.
PO Box 1234) in the shipping address line. - Click Continue to Shipping / Pay now.
- Observe the immediate native error banner preventing payment completion.
- Replace with a valid physical street address and watch checkout complete seamlessly.
